Thanks for the list! Is there any short-term progress on using nuclear power for commercial shipping? I think as we try to go to net-zero emissions in all sectors, this will be the solution for decarbonizing shipping. Is that right?
Love these retrospective posts! There's so much nuclear news, some good, some bad, that it can feel disorienting as it washes over you. Looking back like this helps put it into perspective!
I think the important thing from a nuclear point of view is that Zaporizhzhia was shelled and stood up to the shelling. I suppose you think Ukraine shelled their own NPP themselves as a false flag attack. I’m not saying anything is beyond the realm of possibility, but this is a nuclear blog and we’ll stick to the nuclear issues.
I am not saying or think that Ukraine shelled themselves, but they were possibly shelling occupiers. NPP was captured at the the begging of war and it was established that there was/is millitary equipment stored/used by Russia on site. Talking about false flag doesn't make sense. It is not a false flag to shell your enemy on an occupied territory.
I am only pointing out factual error - "The world watched in horror in March as Russian forces proceeded to…what’s the technical language, shell the shit out of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe"
Shelling didn't start till August. And it is another question who is shelling what.
Hopefully the Palisades nuclear plant can be saved as well :)
Nice 10 from 2022
That would be a great one for 2023!
Thanks for a great summary of the year that could be a new beginning for nuclear power!
So excited for what the new year will bring!
Excellent recap. Thanks!

Oh yes this would be absolutely something groundbreaking. Take a look at what the good people at Core Power are doing.

Absolutely! Banner year for nuclear energy.

Thanks I'll fix it!
Fixed!

Wikipedia: The plant has been occupied by Russian forces since 3 March 2022. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaporizhzhia_Nuclear_Power_Plant_crisis
Further down the article you can see that shelling started in August.
August is also when Russia lost all initative and Ukrainian counter offensive started https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Ukrainian_southern_counteroffensive
We have seen Russia hiding millitary vehicles/equipment in turbine halls.
It is not logical to start shelling a station which has been firmly under your control for months.
You can be pro-Ukraine and still admit that this is not a clear cut situation.
